José Mathias is a standup comedian and professional stutterer.
José Mathias was sipping vodka out of a water bottle* when he started comedy in a dingy Glebe bar.
He has since shared stages with fixtures of the Australian comedy scene such as Luke Heggie, Seizure Kaiser, Rose Callaghan, Dilruk Jayasinha and Rhys Nicholson at booked and open mic rooms. José accepted an official Roast Battle invitation from fellow comedian Nate Eubanks, which he won and followed with a kiss to Nate’s cheek. In 2018 José performed standup on The Gong Show with Luka Muller and won $50 in coins.
José is based in Sydney and Melbourne and is available for bookings.
José has written for numerous organisations and magazines and publishes content that is highly inappropriate for the workplace on his blog. He is able to produce palatable content as well, particularly features and creative non-fiction.
José has experience in event management, design, and production and will lend his talents to creative projects that align with his interests.
*José no longer drinks. Sorry to disappoint. It’s totally cool if you want to drink though, he just doesn’t
