Tumblr lets you post to your blog by calling a toll-free number

Each social network has a different user stereotype, and apparently Tumblr thinks that it’s users are into retro, vintage forms of communication. (Judging from the images I see on there, they’re probably right actually.)

Today the blogging platform released a new feature, which allows Tumblr users to post to their blogs by dialling a number. The feature is available in New Zealand, but barely made headlines because the team behind the company decided to announce it by publishing an obscure video without explanation or media release to the site’s blog.

If you’d like to go back to the 90’s and use your phone for things other than texting and Snapchat, go to your settings and click “Set up your phone.” Then call 1-866-584-6757, record the audio, and hang up.

How is this a ’90’s thing? Should we be using landlines to call up? Also, I’m pretty sure in the ’90s, Tumblr would have taken about 10 minutes to load with my dial-up connection.

But hey, what good is a billion-dollar social network if it can’t pull random stunts like this.
