Swedish YouTuber makes $134.5K – $1.3M a month
In a move that has most of us contemplating a serious career change, The Atlantic has started a “Let’s Players” series which profiles popular YouTubers who do “Lets play this game” videos.
Swedish internet celebrity PewDiePie is the most famous YouTube personality, coming 6th place overall, beaten only by YouTube’s general music, news, and movie channels, according to analytics site Social Blade. With 25 million subscribers, PewDiePie (real name Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg ) has more YouTube weight than Rihanna’s 13 million, Justin Bieber’s 9 million, or Lorde’s 1.7 million.
PewDiePie started his channel back in April of 2010, and now earns between $134.5K – $1.3M a month, and $1.6M – $16.1M a year, making him the highest paid YouTube celebrity.

His vlogging style is… unorthodox to say the least, but it connects with fans in a genuine way, giving him about 3.8 billion views a year. YouTube takes up to 45% of the ad revenue on videos, and reportedly pays around $10 per thousand views. That could give Mr. Kjellberg around $43,000 a day. Not a bad life if I may say so myself!
Shameless promotion: New Zealand Entrepreneurs’ parent company, Mach Media NZ, is launching a Vloggers and Bloggers platform soon to help talented people monetise their content. If you want to receive a notification when it has launched, enter your email address below.
