Pilots landing and taking off in Birmingham Airport

Wellington has one of the most windy airports in the world, putting it in single figures on virtually every list. But Birmingham Airport is often not included because its runways are only windy in winter.

In the colder months, wind patterns shift, causing the take off and landing strips to be caught in the middle of serious crosswinds. The winds can be so strong that smaller planes can land vertically, while bigger planes usually opt for another pass. Or three. It also sees almost twice as many passengers land and take off than Wellington does.

Think you have a stressful job? Just be thankful you’re not one of these pilots!
