EVENT: Startup Grind hosts Mike Carden, Sonar 6
The initiative is powered by Google for Entrepreneurs, and events are held in more than 100 cities and 42 countries featuring successful local founders, innovators, educators and investors who share personal stories and lessons learned on the road to building great companies.
Generator NZ, a serviced office, business club, and functions venue, holds the license for Startup Grind, and is charging attendees only $10 for a ticket which includes a drink, pizza and “inspiration that can change your life.”
“Where else in New Zealand do you get to sit in a room of 20 – 50 people, with a successful entrepreneur answering questions in an up close and personal space?” asks Micaela Wade, Event Manager at Generator. “Even better, it’s only $10 a month!”
“Start Up Grind creates a unique and intimate environment for budding entrepreneurs to ask the tough questions in an environment that nurtures the entrepreneurial cause.”
In the past, Startup Grind has hosted Shane Bradley from GrabOne, Mike Ballantyne of Online Republic, Tim Alpe of Jucy Rentals, Jenene Crossan of nzgirl.co.nz and Flossie.com, James Coddington of Joy Ice Cream, and most recently, Sean Simpson of LanzaTech.
This month’s guest speaker is Mike Carden of Sonar 6, a human resources SaaS application and one of New Zealand’s hottest tech start-ups.
“Each speaker has offered very different views and insights into how they launched their companies, the tough decisions or situations faced with and what it means to be an entrepreneur in the New Zealand market,” Micaela says.
“So far no one’s story has been the same. Everyone has offered their secret formula or ‘herbs and spices’ of their success.”
Attendees will have an hour to network and enjoy nibbles from 5:30 onwards. At 6:30, a fireside chat with the guest speaker will commence, and at 7:30, there’s another networking session.
The Startup Grind event will be held in the beautiful space that Generator has developed, which is neatly tucked away in Britomart, Auckland.
Generator is where work and life meet, says Micaela. It’s comparable to a VIP shared office space with a unique combination of serviced and shared office space, including private suites, permanent desks, hot-desking and casual membership to Generator’s bar and lounge .
”Our members enjoy the best aspects of a private club, serviced office, and shared workspace with a sense of community,” she continues.
“Generator has also created a choice of beautifully designed event spaces, from sophisticated dining rooms to comfortable lounge spaces, inviting terraces, or a chic cocktail reception.
“Each event space has its own character, from the plush comfort of the Lounge to the quiet elegance of the Library, and the bright vibrance of the Square. These event spaces are used for both corporate day events as well as corporate or private evening cocktail events.”
Although the Generator space isn’t often limited by capacity, the Startup Grind event is limited to 50 tickets.
“It’s an intimate fireside chat,” says Micaela,” and we want to keep it that way!”
